An enchanting brief history of the anklet.

Such an underrated piece of jewellery is the anklet, as a small girl I loved them but remembered my mum saying negative things about wearing one but all I saw was how pretty they looked. Many cultures have worn them to indicate their marital or relationship status as well as to enhance music during traditional dance. Some wore them as talismans and beleived they would ward off evil spirits keeping them safe against evil.  My favourite fact is that in the 1940s as skirts got shorter women wore them to show off their pretty ankles and certain classes saw it as racy. In the 1960s and 70s they were adopted by the bohemian beauties and now there are electronic ones for some of our slightly naughty section of our community, all in all they are fabulous and should be embraced by all and worn on which ever ankle or on both.
